About Sanchong Yitian Temple (Taiwan Cat Temple)
Sanchong Yitian Gong (Yitian Temple) is a Mazu (Heavenly Mother) temple in Sanchong District, New Taipei City. It is widely known among cat lovers as a “cat temple” (貓廟 / māomiào): cats cared for by temple staff and volunteers rest on mats and altars while people pray. Numbers change over time, and cats may or may not appear when you visit. This is an active place of worship — visit quietly, keep a respectful distance from the cats, and do not disturb offerings or worshippers. Easy to pair with a Taipei / New Taipei day trip via the MRT.
How to get to Sanchong Yitian Temple (Taiwan Cat Temple)
Take the Taipei Metro Zhonghe–Xinlu Line (Luzhou branch) to Sanhe Junior High School Station. From Exit 1, walk about 4–5 minutes to No. 150 Chelutou Street.
Bus routes that stop near Yitian Gong / Jianhe New Village are also available. Paid parking lots are nearby if you come by car.
Temple hours are generally long daytime into evening (around 7:00–21:30 — confirm on the official site). Cats may or may not be present.
