September 23–25, 2024 / Ubud → Kuta, Bali, Indonesia
Toward the center of Ubud
I headed toward central Ubud,
just walking, no real plan.

I stopped by a coworking café called
Wrkhub By Tutmak.

On Google Maps, it’s listed as a coworking space,
but in reality it felt more like a café.
Also, the Wi-Fi was down.

I worked a little,
then moved on.
I also stopped by the Ubud Palace.
I’d like to say I’m into temples,
but honestly, I’m not that interested.
So I just walked through it quickly.

The main street in Ubud
was much busier than I expected—
cars, motorbikes, everywhere.
Maybe the quieter places are further into the hills.
Next time, I might go there instead.
Ubud.Space
Then I went to
Ubud.Space Coworking and Coffee.

When I walked in,
one of the staff was wearing a Guns N’ Roses T-shirt.
I asked,
“Do you like Guns N’ Roses?”
It didn’t seem like they really did.
Looking around,
there were a lot of Westerners
quietly working.

While I was working,
I looked outside the window
and saw a monkey.
Not something you see every day in Japan.

It felt… nice.
If I come back to Bali,
I’d probably work here again.
Children in costume
I walked around Ubud until it got a bit dark.

At some point,
a group of children appeared,
playing music while walking together,
wearing something like lion dance costumes.

I wasn’t sure
if it was for tourists
or part of a traditional event.
Thinking about that,
I headed to my next hotel.
Moving to Kuta
I moved to
Grand Ixora Kuta Resort.
It’s within walking distance from the airport.

I had hoped for a higher floor,
but got a room on the ground floor.
Still, it had a bit of a resort feel,
so it was fine.
I had dinner at a food court
and went to sleep.
Last day in Kuta
In the morning, I worked at the hotel.
For lunch, I had
Soto Ayam at the hotel restaurant.
It was very good.
Exactly my kind of taste.

Later, I went for a walk to
Pantai Jerman.

No surfers there—
just boats.

Then, those same children
with the lion dance-style costumes appeared again.
After that,
I worked at a nearby café,
looked for some souvenirs,
and went back to the hotel.
Back to Japan
On my last day in Bali,
I walked to the airport.
A bit sweaty,
but convenient.

I went through Kuala Lumpur and Taipei
before arriving in Sendai.
I had barely slept—
only on the plane—
so I was extremely tired.
At Sendai Airport,
I was stopped at customs.
While they were checking my luggage,
I asked,
“Do I look suspicious?”
They smiled and said,
“Well… you’ve been to quite a few places.”
Fair enough.
Update
After writing this article, MeowSnap was released on November 13, 2025.
It’s a small app that lets you quietly keep track of the cats you meet while traveling on a map.
