About Sayanagijima (Cat Island)

A small island in Tadotsu Bay, Kagawa Prefecture, where cats gather around the fishing port. The sight of cats jumping across harbor walls has made the island popular on social media.

How to get to Sayanagijima (Cat Island)

From Takamatsu or Okayama, take the JR Yosan Line to Tadotsu Station, walk about 10 minutes to Tadotsu Port, then take the Tadotsu Kisen ferry to Sayanagijima via Takamijima (about 1 hour). Four round trips per day. Service may be cancelled in bad weather — check the timetable and operating status before you go. Cash is the norm on the island.

  1. From Takamatsu or Okayama, take the JR Yosan Line to Tadotsu Station.
  2. Walk from Tadotsu Station to Tadotsu Port (about 10 minutes).
  3. Take the Tadotsu Kisen ferry from Tadotsu Port to Sayanagijima via Takamijima (about 1 hour). Four round trips per day.
  4. After arrival, walk around the harbor — cats are often seen on the breakwater and in the lanes.
